Peace: An Advent Message

Yesterday was the second Sunday of Advent. Traditionally, it is the day we light the peace candle. I’m told it is purple. As I am totally blind, I have to take your word for it. 🙂 I love purple though and always have. I also love peace; I’m just not always good at spreading it.

I intended on posting on the blog, but the weekend and last week was so busy, I didn’t get to it. Which, leads me to ask myself, what was more important, God’s peace or me?

Ouch!

I typed “peace” in my search box on the Bible app. One suggestion was Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

God is the first peacemaker–He sent Jesus to be the mediator (middle man) between Himself and humanity. He made peace before we even knew we needed it. He loved us before He made us. He calls us to be peacemakers like Him and to love one another as He loves us.

Sometimes, all that getting along gets hard around the holidays. We get tired and say things we don’t mean. We are constantly running from one family member’s home to another, all in order to be with our loved ones for the holiday, and it can be overwhelming. But we have an Advocate, someone who is praying and interceding for us, and we can count on HIm. He will not fail us.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

“Let your requests be made known unto God”. The one we can look to for help is God the Father. His Son Jesus is the Prince of Peace, Wonderful counsellor, the Everlasting One. His peace that guards your hearts and minds passes all understanding. I can’t grasp how I can have peace in the middle of a busy Christmas season, but I know He can give it. After all, He created Christmas! 🙂
